Hostess Gift Giving
Blog 12 Hostess gifts (continued)
The saying that it’s the thought that counts really does ring true when it comes to giving gifts. It means more to people, when you give a thoughtful gift, and one that has true meaning. In France, traditional hostess gifts might include chocolates or confectionary. Gifts of perishables are not always a good idea as it may cause your host or hostess to stop to find a place for them, as in the case of fresh cut flowers. In addition, traditionally hostess gifts are meant to be open later, after the guests have gone, so bringing a cake or pie, unless invited to do so, may result in your gift going to waste. Chocolates, candies, cookies in a sealed container, tea or specialty sugars will keep unrefrigerated and will great for use later. Your host or hostess may appreciate a nice teacup or mug. They will think of you while sipping and relaxing.
Regular gifts such as birthday or Christmas gifts are usually more of a personal nature. In contrast, a hostess gift is a gift that you give to someone as a thank you for them inviting you to dinner, tea or a party. It should be something that a host or hostess would use while entertaining guests, either for entertaining the immediate family or for a future get-together.
If your host or hostess is tea enthusiast and often invites guests to tea, we suggest gifts to offer that will grace their tea table.
